Sex Therapy? How to navigate sexual functioning concerns

Sexual health is part of our general wellbeing – this is never more apparent than when we are faced with challenges in our sex lives.

Sexual functioning concerns are a common and natural part of the human experience. These concerns can manifest in various ways, including difficulties with arousal, desire, orgasm, and pain during intercourse. By understanding the various causes and seeking appropriate support it is possible to navigate these challenges and cultivate a fulfilling and satisfying sexual life.

So, what does sex therapy specifically address?

Unreliable erections | erectile dysfunction: A difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection when desired.

Vaginismus: The painful tensing of the vaginal muscles making some forms of sexual intercourse difficult, painful, or unachievable.

Early ejaculation | ‘premature’ ejaculation: Orgasming earlier than desired in sexual encounters.

Delayed ejaculation: A delay or difficulty ejaculating in sexual experiences.

Difficulty reaching orgasm: Struggling to or feeling unable to reach orgasm in sexual experiences.

Low sexual desire: The absence or notable reduction of sexual desire.

Compulsive sexual behaviours: Feeling out of control with sexual behaviors, engaging in (or feeling unable to stop) sexual acts that cause personal distress or when these behaviors are disruptive to other important areas of life.

Fertility related concerns: Curiosity or concern related to fertility – contemplating parenthood, pregnancy, birth, fertility treatments, miscarriage, birth, etc.

Sex therapy is also a place where you can seek information and develop greater insight into your own desires, get curious about sex, sexuality, and yourself in a confidential, judgment free professional environment.
